Internet safety

Internet safety? Such a large area to cover. Sites like my space and there seem to be quite a few others out there, show how times are changing. Culture is changing. Educational process is changing and struggling to keep up with technology. Trying to keep pace with the children who are miles ahead.

Safety concerns, I have more then a few. Since starting this blog and visiting the various wikis I can see how easy it would be to let your guard down. Expose information that can be pieced together to track a person down and single them out. As in the wild where a preditor goes after the vulnerable and separates them form the herd. Triple that danger with children, teenagers who feel "like it can't happen to them".

Education is the best defense. Between the school libraries, public libraries, and parents to spread the word "SAFETY". The government should be involved with stiffer laws regarding predators. But adding "too much government" interference we could loose much more then we gain. Once a right is taken away it's very difficult to get it back.

Parents, educators, and public instituions such as libraries, and internet sites need to work together to educate the children to the dangers and suggest statigies to help them avoid "bad situations" and to be "aware".

I think you are right. There are many concerns with safety and it all goes back to education. Nice point about the books.
